Insulated cups, seemingly ordinary daily necessities, may also pose health risks if the material is not chosen correctly
What kind of thermos cannot be used
Insulated cups cannot use 201 material
201 stainless steel is not a food grade material, but an industrial product material, mostly used for making decorative tubes, industrial tubes, and watch straps. 201 stainless steel has a high manganese content and poor corrosion resistance. If it is used as the inner liner of a thermos cup, long-term storage of beverages can lead to the precipitation of manganese elements, and hot water may directly become “toxic water”. Manganese metal is an essential trace element for the human body, but excessive intake of manganese can harm the body, especially the nervous system.
It is recommended to use 304 and 316 stainless steel materials. The most important elements in 304 stainless steel are nickel and chromium, which have good processing and corrosion resistance properties. The manganese content is less than 2%, and it is recognized as a food grade stainless steel by the country.
To choose a thermos cup, you can follow the following four steps.
1. Check the label identification
Do you have the product name, producer name, address, contact information, and production date;
The material of the parts in contact with food, such as stainless steel, should be checked for the presence of “304” and “316” steel seal markings at the bottom; Plastic, rubber, and other components that come into contact with food, such as straws, lids, etc., should also be labeled with plastic or other materials.
2. Smell for any unusual odors
A high-quality insulated cup should have no abnormal odor or a slight odor that is easy to dissipate. If the smell is strong and persistent after opening the cup lid, it indicates that there is a risk of use of the product. It should be avoided and returned or exchanged in a timely manner.
3. Check the overall appearance
Check whether the surface of the insulated cup has uniform color, cracks, and gaps; Whether the printed text and patterns are clear and complete; The coating should not crack or peel off, and the welded parts should be smooth, without pores, cracks, or burrs.
4. Measure insulation performance
Inject boiling water, tighten the cup lid, and hold it for 2-3 minutes. If there is no significant temperature increase, it indicates that the product has good insulation performance;
After filling the cup with water, tighten the lid and invert it for a few minutes and weeks. If there is no leakage, it proves that the sealing performance is good.
Remind more
Do not use a thermos to hold hot milk. If heated milk is placed in a thermos, prolonged warmth can easily promote microbial growth and lead to spoilage. Drinking milk that has been stored in a thermos for a long time can affect its taste, and in severe cases, it may lead to food poisoning.
