Can a thermos be placed in the refrigerator?

Оглавление

Insulated cups are usually not suitable for placing in refrigerators, especially in the freezer, for the following reasons:

1. Characteristics of stainless steel material

The inner lining of thermos cups is mostly made of stainless steel (such as 304 или 316), and the metal may cause the following problems at low temperatures:

(1) Thermal expansion and contraction: Rapid cooling may cause deformation of the inner and outer stainless steel or vacuum layers, damaging the insulation performance.

(2) Ice risk: If there is residual moisture in the cup (such as unfinished water), it may freeze and expand at low temperatures, causing the cup to crack.

2. Limitations of sealing design

The sealing of thermos cups is good. If the liquid inside the cup freezes after being placed in the refrigerator, the volume expansion may make it difficult to open the cup lid, and even damage the sealing ring.

3. Actual usage requirements

(1) Refrigeration (non freezing): Short term storage of cold drinks (such as ice water) is usually not harmful, but long-term refrigeration is unnecessary. The thermos itself can keep cold.

(2) Freezing: Absolutely avoid, as it may completely damage the cup.

4. Correct advice

(1) Cold preservation: directly filled with ice cubes or chilled beverages, relying on the cold preservation function of a thermos (usually able to last 6-12 часы)

(2) Storage after cleaning: If cleaning is required, store in a dry place at room temperature after ensuring complete drying.

Суммируя, the original intention of designing thermos cups is to maintain temperature, not to adapt to extreme low temperature environments. Putting them in the refrigerator does more harm than good. If you need to refrigerate beverages for a long time, it is recommended to use glass or plastic containers.
